Olivia Colman has a new starring role.
The Oscar-winning actress has been cast in Burberry’s newest campaign, “It’s Always Burberry Weather: Postcards From London,” alongside models like Lucky Blue Smith, Tyson Beckford, Amelia Gray, Liu Wen, Mona Tougaard and others.
But she did more than just strike a pose.
Colman stars in four short films directed by Shakespeare in Love helmer John Madden. The clips, featuring Burberry ensembles, find her playing a range of locals (a cricket enthusiast, a tour guide, a chip shop counter clerk, etc.) as she encounters first-time London tourists. “Each film celebrates just a few of the many characters you’ll encounter in London,” explains Daniel Lee, Burberry’s chief creative officer.
The shorts shine a light on Burberry’s outerwear with Colman wearing the Castleford trench coat in beige while Smith wears a Snowdon puffer jacket in truffle Burberry check, Beckford in a Chestwood trench coat in clay brown, Gray in a Floriston quilted jacket in mahogany, Wen in a Fitzrovia trench coat in clam beige, and Tougaard in a Berryhill padded car coat in ice. Lee oversaw the creative direction for the shoot with an assist on artistic direction from Lane & Associates. The campaign photographer was Drew Vickers.
The campaign will be complemented by a series of store pop-ups designed as an homage to British railways and house founder Thomas Burberry. The pop-ups will blend industrial aesthetics of historic train stations with arts and crafts details. Select addresses in China, Japan and the United Arab Emirates will featured themed pop-ups that will incorporate ticket booths and gifting kiosks like one would find in real stations.
